Well, while the Edain Team seems to tend not to take Bofa seriously, I guess that you could copy some of this stuff, satisfying the Bofa fans without annoying the Bofa haters. xD

I personally think those "hats" of the large frontline trolls looked pretty awesome. The problem to me was just the silly size of these trolls. That said, I disliked most of the other stuff like that abomination legolas fought with...

You probably just disliked them cause of you disliked the movie..
And yes i disliked A LOT of the movie too, but some parts were pretty great, plus it offered a lot of new awesome material for Edain^^

Anyways, they probably just looked bigger cause they were fighting dwarves, but yes i also think they should have the same size as the Mordor trolls:)
And if it would be through option 2, through Saurons influence, it would certainly not be a necessity to use them, so haters wouldnt have to use them, but for all the bofa fans it would totally epic^^

Now that you mention it. In your picture, the trolls not only look awesome, but also have a usual size, kinda like the cavetroll in Lotr 1.
Probably that building-sized ogre in the scene before ore after this made me overestimate them. :D

But as much as I like this troll design, it would be already a huge question where to use it. I'm almost certain that the Edain Team would not connect it to Mordor because of their point of view on the Hobbit lore. And they refused to add a second troll class in Misty Mountains for a long time.

If you wanna see the design, first you will need a really good concept around the unit and it's role in the Misty Mountains.

Do we really know, that these Botfa trolls came from Dol Guldur?

At some point of the battle Azog says "bring in the warbeasts" So they were probably under his command, and in the movie it was Saurons army attacking not the Misty Mountains

But MM wont be getting armored trolls, so they would probably have to be implemented for Mordor.

And i think Dol Guldur fortress makes sense:
All the other fortresses are in Mordor and Dol Guldur is far away, so i think it would make sense for Dol Guldur to atleast have their own troll armor, plus now that the movie provided us with such an epic design, i would hate for it to go to waste:)

But yes they would probably need a greater concept for edain team to actually include them in the game
And at the moment im just throwing in ideas that could work, but maybe i could try to think of a greater concept for how the trolls could be included^^

Yes, in the Hobbit movies, it is perfectly fine that Dol Guldur has it's own armored trolls, but in Edain, it would be exactly the same.
Ofc you could think about just implementing an armor upgrade for trolls (without the unit itself) in the Dol Guldur fortress. Now, you could decide whether you turn your ranged trolls into the Lotr battle troll or into the Bofa type.

I guess that would be the only possible option for Mordor and it still would take a decent concept about how the two types shall differ from each other. I'm not telling you to stop sharing your ideas ;) I'm just saying that we still lack the unit concept at this point and without unit concept no new unit design.

Zitat
Now, you could decide whether you turn your ranged trolls into the Lotr battle troll or into the Bofa type.
both should have their own uses then... maybe the LotR trolls could be more shock troop like (in the movies they were the fist to breach the gates of Minas Tirith) with less armour but more damage while the Dol Guldur Trolls could have more armour but damage... or the other way round

Yes they should serve their own purpose to the faction, otherwise they wouldnt be necessary^^

But yes i like shagrats idea, i think the mordor trolls should have lower durability with higher dmg output with their weapon specialisation
and the Dol Guldur trolls have higher durability with their increased armor, but have lower dmg due to the fact they only get the wooden mace, but they could be used more overall.

And how and from where you get the Dol Guldur trolls:
I still think they should be recruited from Dol Guldur, and you would get them through Saurons influence. This would symbolise the fact that Dol Guldur which is a fortress far away has their own unique looking army. And with Saurons prescence, he armors up his army with heavily armored battle trolls.

And i dont think Minas Morgul should have trolls as a unit, because Minas Morgul is a fortress in Mordor and all the trolls there have the same armor and Dol Guldur has its own.

But it could also be through the troll cage:
Maybe through Saurons influence, instead of giving the trolls an upgrade he would give the troll cage new units, Dol Guldur battle troll, and Mordor attack troll.
So heres the idea:

Troll cage level 1
Mountain troll: These would be trolls in training, cant get any weapon or armor upgrade, but they are cheaper, and mostly used in the beginning. Ofc they could be used later if youre running low on resources.

Troll cage level 2
Drummer troll: same as now

Troll cage level 3
The trolls spawn with armor.

Mordor attack troll: You get the three weapon upgrades for largely increased dmg, but the trolls have lower durability, in the movies it was always these trolls that were used to breach gates and they did as much dmg as they could before dying.

Dol Guldur battle troll: Heavier armor, but no weapon upgrade, they spawn with the Wooden mace, and dont have as high dmg as the attack trolls. Their dmg would be more overall due to the fact they dont have weapon specialisation. And in the movie these trolls were fighting on the battlefield for a longer period of time.

These would serve you as tank trolls, when you are fighting a battle and you dont have that much time to focus on you trolls, while Mordor trolls require more attention to be used effectively

Here is another suggestion:
Both troll types are recruited from the common mountain trolls. The Dol Guldur Armory can be developed in Dol Guldur and makes them much more durable, but also a little slower compared to the Mordor Armory. The upgrade is more expensive and stronger than the Mordor version without the special weapon, however if you count the weapon upgrade, the Mordor version is more expensive and more advanced overall because it is capable of taking out anything very fast.

The player can only get one of the armor upgrades while the other one gets closed at that point.

So the decision would be rather tied to whether you want to do pressure right now or you think you can, and should, wait.
Imo it's also more realistic not to see both of them in the same army, because Dol Guldur was an early attempt to regain power which ultimately failed before the real war.

Yes i agree on everything, but i wouldnt mind having more options in the troll lair, i think it would smoothen the gameplay, if the trolls would spawn with the armor, and the for mordor troll you could then further buy the weapon specialisation afterwards.

Plus if the troll cage got the different trolls, the different trolls would be available in war of the ring, at the moment you can just have the regular trolls, you cant get them upgraded, so this would also be a solution for that.

But i didnt quite get one thing, did you mean that the trolls can be recruited from Dol Guldur or that the upgrade can be researched there?:)

Look at to " 1:44 " there are really cool type of orc armored units near the azog. Edain Team Please bring these units^^

Please bring everything from hobbit films ( all trolls and their armored types + all kind of armored or other units or things ).

Mordor is weak comparing to other factions...

I don't think a the new troll class is really needed, but if they are to be implemented, I think Whales concept would be the best way to do it.
