update: there was an update for Tunngle released that requires I purchase the premium version. I cannot access Tunngle at all without the update, which I can't get because money is extremely tight.

Is there any other way to play Edain online without using Tunngle?

You don't need premium to download the update. Premium is required if you want to download the new version within Tunnge itself, you can still download the new version manually for free
