Archer Behavior on Walls / Stance
« am: 29. Okt 2015, 14:49 »
Hello there, cheers again all ET and community :)

Ive wanted to give a little bit of insight about how Gondor archers are behaving while defending a Castle wall.

- Rangers: When in a 1v2 map, when AI starts to zerg it, most of rangers go crazy and go off the wall (running to the side and exiting it, and sometimes, just... sliding down to the front of gate). I guess its somehow related with their *Discover Threat LoS vs. Vision LoS vs Range *, i don't remember the string names but sounds like it. I stopped using rangers on top of walls after that. (They're rangers, how dare you to put them in walls =b)

- While in walls, sometimes, when nobody is attacking, rangers decide to go walk, leave the wall and then the castle (using a postern gate, usually) and go pursuit something in the woods. (Could be after they spot Gollum, still, the sound FX didnt bumped up so idk).

- Workaround for this was simply putting some units in guard stance in the exits of the central part of the wall/gate, so the fleeing units couldnt pass them. Didnt worked all the time.

- Gondor Archers With normal Gondor Archers, this issue happens sometimes, but its less often then usual, and they normally go back to their designated spots after some range reposition.

With that in mind, i would like to suggest a little change to the guard stance:

* Today, the guard stance basically attacks back when something youre absolutely near gets attacked, or when yourself (Unit) gets attacked. Tbh, sometimes, even attacking the unit dont get a recall. (like catapults, even if theyre in range)

* That being said, why not make the stance basically auto-attack everything like the other two, but lock up movement? Since guard stance isnt exactly targeted, could do no harm to make it in a way it could attack everything in its range, but not move. Think that would fit better and make the stance more reliable. :)

Well, looking forward to Lothlorien!

Cheers o/

You can use "S" on a unit, and it won't move from his poistion :)

Selecting a unit(s) and pressing S will lock their movement and cancel all orders. The unit (if not on defence stance) will attack any enemy in range, without doing any real movement. When enemies get out of range, the unit won't pursue the target.
This also works with all units. Even melee and catapults.

And as you want, this topic is CLOSED.
