"I summon you to fulfill your oath."
Hello, Companions of Edain. A month ago I mentioned that you should expect news a bit "heavier", well... I've come to deliver. Over the past month we have been working at quite an insane rate, adding in the most recent faction and beginning to finish pages completely with strategy and audio quotes. So I hope you've got a piece of Lembas near you, cause you're gonna need some serious reserves to get through this massive news post. It's been a while since I did a proper news post, two month only but it felt much longer so I'm glad to be back. I hope everybody is looking forward to this, cause I sure am, I've got some pretty cool new features we've created to show you.
Before we start I have some important stuff to highlight (or bold in this case). We are currently looking to change the color scheme of the wiki, we like the green and white but it just didn't fit at all with LOTR or the Edain mod. This has lead to a long thread with many opinions and thoughts but we are currently stuck. We've come here to try and see what kind of color scheme people would prefer to see on the wiki, so now you can vote based on which color scheme you'd prefer. There are currently two different set ups based on the background color and a couple other things. There is the blue setup and the red setup, each can be seen as imgur albums at the links and then you can cast your vote on the poll.
Without any more delays, the news:
-
Imladris: over the month we've added every unit, hero and completed the faction page of Imladris. This means that the whole of Imladris can now consulted by anyone and anybody whether or not they have the game. We're still having some trouble finding a proper way to transcribe the upgrade system so any
suggestions are welcome.
-Imladris (again): a full set of achievement has been created for all the fans of the Last Homely House. However, Elrond is not present, just like Galadriel, Gandalf and Sauron they are secret achievements which can only be discovered through contributions.
-With the
Loremasters we had been confronted to a new problem in terms of categories, in the end we created a new category:
Elite. This concerns units with unusual abilities that don't fit in any of the previous categories in addition to possibly exceptional stats. The difference between Elite and Heroic is mostly the limitation in number of battalions but also the stats and abilities.
-This is the fun part. Over the month I've been collecting various clips either staged or unintentional of the game, after a while I made the necessary cuts on it and added a frame and this gave us GIFs to serve as the images that link to the categories of both units and heroes. You can all see it on the
Main Page, just scroll slightly down and they'll appear.
-Two other issues, both quite similar to each other, also arose relating to the cannon of the movies and fan-art especially in relation to the quotes to use for the Angmar heroes. In the end, long story short, we decided to allow movie images on the pages to better tie in the mod with the movies (more recognizable to people than the books) and in addition we used fan-art for the Angmar heroes along with quotes from the backstories created by the Edain Team as can be seen on the various heroes such as
Helegwen,
Mornamarth and
Zaphragor.
-A couple month ago I predicted the number of pages we would have after release of Misty Mountain. That prediction totalled 350 with the various pages that could come in, so it was a rough estimation. Well, let's just say we're hitting that number one faction early. Yes, with the recent addition of Imladris we have actually passed the 350 pages mark. I'm not exactly sure what went wrong with my calculation but something did, maybe I miscalculated the number of heroes or something but when Misty Mountain comes out we will probably hit the 400 page mark if not more. Of course because we've also decided to use the wiki as an storage space for strategy guides, maps and submods (and maybe more
) it will forever grow as long as there is someone to edit it. So if you want to add your map, submod or strategy guide you can just visit the
Fan-Created Content section and follow the instructions.
-Over the month, we've been looking carefully at the audio of the mod. Since we've always seen it as essential to it we decided to add two new sections to each hero and unit page: Trivia and Quotes. Quotes are a set of audio files linked and fitted into a table, any viewer can listen to the quote or read them. In addition to avoid the pages drawing out too much, the viewers can see all the quotes by simply clicking the See More Button to expand each table. This is a recent and very time consuming initiative and therefore only a few pages are outfitted with it such as
Gothmog,
Gulzar and the
Mouth of Sauron to name a few. The Trivia section so far only serves so that viewer can learn the origin of the quotes for certain characters. However, it's purpose is much wider, it's meant to encompass anything unusual or special about the unit or hero, so if you know anything interesting about a hero or unit make sure to pass by it's page to add it to the Trivia section.
-After the introduction of the patch-fix 4.4.1 and the introduction of the Elven Lord CAH we updated our page with it along with many different tweaks that were also included. You can see the Elven CAH in all its glory on the
CAH page. He's also the focus of our featured image this month.
-I just realized it's been a while but.... the navigation bar has been tweaked. With the help of a plugin the dwarven ring heroes retained their place even though their number multiplied by three
. This plugin allows me to add a fourth sub-menu.
-
Wiki Banners: If you wish you can go there and grab or request a banner. This banner will use the basic theme but you can customize the item at the center as you wish. You can also using the code provided at the bottom of the thread to link the image back to the wiki, if you wish.
-This month also saw the promotion of the 3 of our members who have all be promoted due to their dedication and hard work as follows:
-
Oakenshield224 has been promoted to Administrator and now has access to a wide range of tools and abilities to help the wiki strive.
-
Trondheim9 has been promoted to Semi-Admin which gives him access to many tools to edit the articles and if needed protect them against attacks
-
Julio229 has been promoted to Semi-Admin, he also has gained the same tools to help the wiki grow and make his work easier.
-Finally, in addition to cooperating with other LOTR wikis we had submitted a request to be added to the official Wikia Strategy Games banner which ended successfully, this means that a link to the wiki can now be found on the bottom of more than twenty wikis.
This news post was really news heavy, both in the amount of news and the weight of each news. This really emphasizes how much progress we've made, not always big progress but most often difficult progress (such as adding the quotes). We've also began using the forum lot more, suggesting new features and discussing many of the current features. As always, stats:
-Pages: 351
-Files: 1,251
-Edits: 9,588
-Current WAM Rank: 746
