The Total Journal
« am: 24. Feb 2016, 20:05 »
The Total War series is probably the most popular historical RTS/TBS of all times, and I'm sure many around here still enjoy playing it, and looking forward for future content.

In this thread I'll occasionally post screenshots and some texts about my adventures throughout history  xD

If you like the idea, feel free to also post your adventures here  ;)

Everyone can post anything Total War; fun game stuff, questions, ideas for scenarios, tactics, army comps, city builds,.....etc

Starting off, here's one from my recent Macedon campaign in DeI mod:

Leukaspidai (The White Shield) are a phalanx of pikemen modelled on their hoplite forebears, and subsequently the Macedonian pike reformes. Their distinct white painted shields, of which they got their name, are emblazoned with the name of their king.
The term Leukaspides first appeared at around ~250 BC already as a pike unit, in service of the Antigonids of Macedon.

It's a pity you play with the shadow settings turned off. The game looks much better with it ;).

Since my laptop would die anyway, I prefer to get great units details followed by good particles and effects, then buildings, then shadows are usually off :P
The scale of battles in DeI means that I would usually have a fight of at least 5000 soldiers all the time.
5000 shadows (+ the shadows of all the trees and buildings) will murder my performance  [ugly]

Though on for example Napoleon I have everything on max, and it works like magic.

Ram the gate!
Elements of the Legio II Italia laying siege to a celtic town beyond the Alpins.
The town isn't particularly rich, but a fair number of slaves is to be expected from this raid.

Well my subject are usually happy with my leadership, and I rarely have PO problems, not to mention revolts  xD
Here's a tip, start by planning out your buildings throughout each province in such a way that you always have positive food and an at least neutral public order change (without a present general).

If you found the building's effects confusing, I'll put up an example from one of my campaigns and try to explain the steps of how to create a perfect prosperous province ;)

Well making a province happy is not hard for me :P. It's the problem that the first turns after conquering a settlement increases the chances of rebellion, and sometimes, but rarely, the population revolts. Though its easy to crush the rebels, a slave revolt is much harder to fight against. Dont worry though I consider myself a good player :P.

What occupation option do you use?? usually when I'm not in short of money I tend to occupy without sacking (which releases all the captured enemies, so no slaves).
Also if you're playing DeI, there's an option to sell slaves which will decrease your slave population in the region.

This is a theme which is part of the official soundtrack of the film Crash (2004).
The reason why I posted it here should be something known by every attendant of this topic...  ;)

It does remind me of Medieval II theme. Though when I heard it the first thing that went to mind was this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GityoGjUj0g

You were very closed  :)

It's a recurrent theme of Rome Total War.
I would often hear it both in the game's menu and in many battle's summaries (sound of defeat, if I'm not wrong).

Honestly its been a very long time since I played the first Rome Total War :P. Speaking about osts which Total War game has the best ost in your opinion? To me the Medieval 2 Total War ost wins by faar from all other Total War games, the extra osts of the Kingdoms expansion makes it even better. Second comes the first Rome. Eventhough Rome 2's ost isnt so "exciting" as the original first one, it does sound mightier and fits far better with the Roman culture imo.

For me Rome 1 got the best music because it actually feels that you're listening to actual old times music, plus it provides a perfect blend with the game that I never seem to tire of.
Medieval II comes next because of pretty much the same reason. Though I can get tired of it sometimes.
I actually like Napoleon's quite a lot. It fits the era perfectly!

I completely agree with hoho  :)
Rome Total War's soundtrack will always remain my favourite one.

Besides, do you know something about the Amazons mystery in Rome Total War?  xD
They are a rebellious population located in the extreme North of the East, in a very hidden and mysterious place among the vast forests, north of the wild and unexplored Scythia.

The settlement – Themiskyra – is surprisingly the only Greek-based settlement in those remote lands.
The legends are thus proven right, as there dwell the legendary Amazons and their dreadful chariots  8-)

You can notice the female-shaped armours and their blonde hair  (**)
And, needless to say, they are one of the most powerful units in the game, with excellent stamina and endurance, akin to the Spartan phalanx.
