Upcoming Middle Earth film? – Possible theorised scripts
aminetude:
We all wanted to know if another middle-earth movie will be made by Peter Jackson and his team, and since WB(=Warner Bros) got only the rights to LOTR and The Hobbit, it won't be very safe to presume they will make a movie about the Silmarillion, or based on any of the other books, but i guess they are two options that can be used, and probably will be used by WB to create another movie/movies,
1) Peter stated that he may publish an ultimate middle-earth triology, containing all the deleted scenes from both the triologies, and maybe new content ( maybe ). Well this was stated by Peter himself, but i still doubt WB would do this, since it won't fill the coffers as a new movie, that's why i find the second option more favourable.
2) I noticed during the entire Hobbit trilogy, some references to a story that is within the books ( appendices ... ), and can be devoloped into a long movie, or even a triology. And that my good friends is the rise of the kingdom of Angmar and the downfall of Arnor, i mean in the first movie, during the meeting of the white council, Galadriel stated something about Angmar, she said:"When Angmar fell, the men of the north took his body - refering to the witch king- and sealed it in a tomb so dark, it could never come to light", wise words from a wise lady, don't you think ? Well at first, i didnt notice that at all, but i saw that Angmar was announced many other times, specially in third movie. Legolas told Tauriel his mother died in the wars with the kingdom of Angmar, they also mentioned Gundabad as a great Fortress of Angmar wich supplies it with many armor and weapons. Also, Gandalf told Thranduil and Bard, that sauron wishes to use the riches of Erebor to rebuild Angmar, i mean that wasnt at the book at all, in the book, the goblins ( not orcs ), go to fight for their slain leader ( the great goblin ), but they changed the whole plot, just for nothing ?? I think they were pacing the way for another possible middle earth movie, or possibly a trilogy, since they can cover the rise and fall of that fell kingdom in 3 movies or maybe even more. I also remember Elrond in the first movie speaking about the fragile peace, i think he was referring to the hardly won war in the north against angmar, there might be other references in the movie, but i only remember these for now.
Well, thank you for reading and sorry for the long paragraph, if you think i am just saying nonsense i wouldn't mind at all, it is just what appears to me after taking a while to think of it.
Fredius:
If there were to come a new Middle Earth movie it wont be made by Jackson, because he also stated that the Hobbit was the last time he would make one. But ofcourse I would love it if they would make more ME movies, I just hope there will be a director willing to do it. For WB it should also be good because ME movies are like goldmines.

Long paragraphs are really not an issue here, fortunately xD
Well, I too would love to see other films about Middle Earth, and, specifically, I always dream and wonder in the depths of my mind whether someone will ever make a monumental and Oscar-worthy trilogy regarding the Silmarillion (only the War of the Jewels itself).
But, I'm also definitely aware that the chances are not really so high, at least in the meantime; and, as much as I thoroughly appreciated the whole Hobbit momentum, I would really like to see a return of the epic and majestic aura of the LOTR trilogy, of which Alfrid, Hilda Bianca or the zombie trolls were not part.
Anyway, since the Appendices deal with the Silmarillion, the Second Age and the whole Third Age too, I think there could indeed be various interesting aspects and events to explore in possible films :)
Elrond probably refers to the Watchful Peace, which started, in the lore, when Gandalf visited Dol Guldur for the first time, almost 1000 years before the actual attack on Dol Guldur by the White Council (what is shown in the Hobbit).
But, yes, given the trilogy's particular interpretation, that 'peace' could rightly refer to the relatively stable equilibrium after the end of the war in the North.

For Fredius, i do approve that Peter Jackson stated that he is pretty sure he won't do any other ME movie, but did you remember when LOTR just finished, he stated back then, that another ME movie couldn't be realised, but after all the hobbit was made, i guess it was just a question of quality, specially about Smaug, since at that time, they wouldnt have created a great CGI worthy of the great Serpent of the north, i mean they had done Gollum, but smaug would have shown many problems, and wouldnt seem so perfect. It may also depend on WB policy, i remember i read somewhere that the hobbit was going to be directed by another director, but he left since he had some other things to attend to, and Peter came in and took the job. But actually, when i think of it, i would miss the touch of Peter if any upcoming ME movie is going to be made by another director, i know many think he screwed the BOTFA EE, but i really think he is trying to do his best to balance between the needs of his fans, and filling the coffers of WB. But i wouldnt mind the WB's coffers being filled if they deliver us another great ME movie/movies.
And to DieWalkure, i definetly know what you're experiencing, i too desire to see one day a trilogy about the war of Jewels, but since many problems are posed ( copyrights, also imagine since Morgoth is going to be implemented, all the valar would also be drawn into action, and creating such wonderful creatures with thousands and thousands of armies will require a decent technology that we might have not yet reached, i know Dain looked so good as CGI, but we surely won't be dealing with only dain in these movies ), so i guess such movies, or may i say "art pieces", would be released, but more likely in the distant future.
And that leaves us to Angmar thing, i really find it logical. There is also the matter with thranduil's burns, there was a time where Thranduil fought dragons, i can't find it in the books, but since they already made such scene, i guess the war of dwarves against dragons in the north might also be an interesting point, somehow the woodland elves come to aid the dwarves ? just a maybe not very sure tough.
Walküre:
And, I would add that – beside graphical problematics – there would be the monumental scripting matters to cope with, as the plot would embrace more than 600 years (not to mention the needed references about the previous times of Arda).
It would be a very extraordinary task managing to create a decent ensemble about an almost 600-year timeline, preserving the majestic aura of these legendary events, as the standards are definitely set far higher than LOTR :)
The connection about Thranduil and Dragons is a bit of a gamble, though, since we don't have really so much direct lore references about it.
But, I definitely think it's about the terrible facts that Thranduil had to face by participating in the War of Wrath (if some Sindar ever did it), when most of the Dragons unleashed by the Enemy were of the kind of the Urulóki, the first and original wingless and snake-like Dragons.
The Winged Dragons were unleashed only at last, against the Host of the Valar, and they were mainly slain by Eärendil and the Eagles of Manwë gathered in the sky.
I honestly doubt Thranduil had to directly fight against such evil and almost irreducible creatures (Winged Dragons); furthermore, he says Great Serpents, thus using a description very akin to the one of the Urulóki.
Besides, you are not always forced to use the spoiler feature, aminetude.
Long texts are more than welcome, here ;)
