The Lady's encounter with that lovely fox is meant to be a brief digression before the commencement of the very battle, on which the RPG story is wholly based. And it's also a quite smart expedient I felt like using during the narration. Parentheses of this sort are often exemplified by akin digressions in ancient literature, when minor details may bear significant meaning and sense in the holistic outlook of the story: references to recurrent themes, exploration of obscure passages, the widening of a character's moulding and so on. Suffice it to say, therefore, that I did want to continue this long tradition of old which just needs be honoured, anytime one may do that.

The fox thus represents Arda itself. Its innocence and buoyancy. The primitive and ancestral guise of the world, as it was first envisaged by Ilúvatar and then made into reality by the labouring of the Valar. Fierce, wild and innocent. Later, the destiny of Arda was inexorably intertwined with the battle infuriating between the two sides ruling Eä: the Archangels, endowed with the sole authority to govern, and the seditious Melkor. Henceforth, innocence was marred and rendered a past memory; many wounds and crimes, along with the burden of time which by all must be borne.

War is now to break out. As planned, it will all start with the first assault on the peripheral woods, led by multiple battalions of Orcs. Their main objective is an initial reconnaissance mission along the borders of Lórien. They are to be met by the fiercest resistance, though, for no creature of that sort may be given the chance to set foot on the sacred soil of the Golden Wood.

The grand army will not be mobilised completely, since border guards are to deal with this first attempt to breach the realm's defence line. Galadriel is going to provide aid via her foreseeing powers, predicting any move of her enemies and sending thoughts of despair to the foul invaders.

I decided to experiment a bit and so I shall introduce the first assault on Lothlórien with a quite particular poem. A poem that sounds very little as a chant or melodic composition. It is a warning from the Dark Lord, vowing him to set fire to the woods of that realm. A realm which always stood bold against the several menaces creeping and crawling at its borders. And Sauron seeks the ruin of his great enemy with intense obsession, for the Lady of Light had never fallen prey of his snares and her very presence in the Third Age is by itself a wound for the Tyrant: the last survivor of the Elder Days, among the mighty princes of the Noldor, either recalled in lays of epic battles, or grievously mourned by the ones still lingering in a world growing darker.
