The_Necromancer0:
From a technical point of view this is not a good idea because it would require a duplicate object for every horde that the drummer can attach to and there is already many duplicate objects for goblins (wild, moria, orc chief summom, updgraded orc chief summom).

If the idea is that hordes are easier to control than single units than what we could do instead is make the drummer goblin into a horde. The question is then: what kind of horde do you think the drummer should be part of?

This would be a horde composed of one drummer and some other units. It could be a mix of pikemen, swordsmen and archers, what do you think would be the best mix? Should the entire horde die if the drummer does or should only the buff stop? Should the drummer horde be able to buy a banner carrier? Heavy armor? Upgraded weapons?

Halbarad:
Well I thought about making it possible to connect them with Moria Orcs and only them, therefore not creating as many duplicate objects but only 3.

On the other hand I could also imagine the drummer directly being surrounded by swordsmen after being recruited. If that would be the case, I would imagine that they would have the same upgrades as usual swordsmen except for the banner carrier since the drummer would function as such. Also he could switch between two modes, 1. "engage" which would make him directly attack enemies and 2. "keeping distance", which would make and his bataillon him stop at a distance when targetting an enemy, same as archers do (could be done via giving him range attacks that deal 0 damage). Also yes in that case I'd connect the hordes life to the drummer and put the drummer not at the back line, but in the center of the horde.

Treating those 2 methods differently makes sense in my opionion since the first case connects the drummer to the horde but still keeps them seperated in a sense, while the second method would merge them into one drummer horde.

The_Necromancer0:
I don't have access to the code at the moment but I'm pretty sure it would be more than 3 duplicate objects.

If the goal is to keep the drummer safe, why not just have the drummer surrounded by archers? Is there any reason you would ever switch the drummer into "engage" mode?

yes, if you want him to lead a raid of close combat units, e. g. to attack buildings, then the drummer shouldn't be left behind. Also it seemed more likely that such a unit would be protected by close combat units, since archers themselves are units that must be protected. Apart from that you are right.

The_Necromancer0:
That makes sense, thank you. I will do some more thinking about how we could implement this.
