Titel: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: DrHouse93 am 31. Mär 2015, 14:07
Greetings, companions of the Edain!

Welcome to the page of my maps for the Edain 4.X. Here you can find a list of all my works^^:

Emyn Arnen - Downloadable

"The lands east of the Anduin, belonging to South Ithilien, were guarded by the city on Emyn Arnen, home of the greatest stewards of Gondor during the early Third Age. The mounts guard the east shore of the southern Anduin. The Bridge of the Erui guards the west shore. Controlling those forts can provide a good advantage over the enemy"

The River Celebrant - Downloadable

"The Silverlode (Celebrant in Sindarin) is a stream rising in the eastern Misty Mountains from the Mirrormere in the Dimrill Dale, which forms the southern and western borders of Lothlorien. Only the power of Sauron could breach it"

For the Glory of Gondor map-pack - N/A

I've always thought Gondor has quite few territories and cities, despite being a great realm, where you can fight on. Furthermore, most of its maps are facing its northern and eastern borders. So that's why I want to make some maps related to Gondor, which show the heart of the kingdom: the southern territories.

I like to see another custom map and another well known user here!  :)
And what will be with the Pelargir? It would be really nice fortress map for the 4.0 version.
And Minas Ithil? Another fortress map.  8-)

Nice to see you, too, Tiberius^^ Don't worry, I didn't forget them 8-)
I'm just trying to figure out how to make Fortress map work properly, since they need to be settled differently from normal maps like this (I already asked that to hoho96, which posted the tutorial to convert normal maps and he's also working on his Carn Dum. He told me another tutorial is on its way, this time for Fortress map, so I think it's just a matter of time)

Huh, another Mapper around here. Glad to see Dr.House here!  xD
This map is looking really interesting, like the small fortress on the right side. Could you make some screenshots with eye-candy? Like the small fortress or the river on the left side. Would be nice!

Thank you Ealendril^^. I'm also working on two fortress maps (Minas Ithil and Pelargir, the former playable with Arnor) and I have other ideas in mind for the future^^
Right now I'm trying to help a friend to install the map in Windows 8 (it's the third one who has a problem with it >_>) to test it. If we manage to do that, I'll take more screenshots of the map^^

Greetings, companions of the Edain!

Today I'm happy to show you my first map ever made, forgotten for a time, while I was waiting for the Edain 4.0. Now that it's here, I'm finally glad to present to you: Minas Ithil, the Tower of the Moon
(Note: the map is still unfinished. It requires some more adjustements I will list below)

Minas Ithil, built on the western side of the Ephel Duath, was the ancient capital of the fiefdom of Ithilien and the home of Isildur

The first level

The Library. From here, you can recruit your heroes

The Ithil Embassy. This acts as a secondary citadel, enabling to recruit not only your faction heroes, but also external allies

The citadel, on the fourth level

"Minas Ithil was the name of Minas Morgul until it was captured by the Nazgûl. The Ringwraiths laid siege to Minas Ithil shortly after their return, in T.A. 2002, and they took the city for their master, Sauron (who was still hidden at the time). Minas Ithil was occupied by fell creatures, and it changed into a foul, evil place. As a result, it came to be called Minas Morgul, which in the tongue of Gondor means "Tower of Dark Sorcery". The Ithil-stone, was captured and later used by Sauron to influence Denethor II during the War of the Ring"

This map shows Minas Ithil at the full of its glory, when it was a mighty city of Gondor and the Nazgul besieged and conquered it. I created it by starting from the standard EA's Minas Morgul map, and I slightly changed everything to make it look like the exact twin of Minas Tirith, which at that time was known as Minas Anor

FEATURES
- The map is a 2v3 players. The player 2 starts in the third level, with the Ithil Embassy being his citadel. He controls the third level. If there's no player 2, the control of the third level is transferred to player 1
- If there's no player 1 (no human player located in the citadel), the city is controlled by a neutral faction, which will attack any external force which approaches it. This way, the map can also be played completely outside
- On the northwestern side of the map, there is an already unpacked outpost and beacon, belonging to a neutral army. However, if they're attacked, their control is transferred to the player 1
- Player 1 and 2 start with 50000 resources, but they just have 2000 maximum commandpoints, regardless of the game mode
- The players outside start with 10000 resources
- The player 1 owns two shipyards from the beginning
- The Tower of the Moon, since hosting the Ithil-stone, allows player 1 to uncover, for a medium period of time, a part of the map
- For the first 25 minutes, player 1 can't open the main gate, to give time for attackers as well as defenders to prepare their forces. If the timer expires, or the attackers attack the city prematurely, the siege begins, and the main gate will be unlocked
- The main gate has very high health. However, it requires a lot to be repaired

ISSUES
- I couldn't make the northern outpost unpack. It simply doesn't happen anything. And if I try to put in there three buildings as starting ones, the Gondor citadel doesn't appear (that doesn't happen for other standard buildings, such as the Barracks)
- Player 1 progressively obtain all the spellbook powers automatically, without doing anything
- In general, except for the first level, the city needs to be filled up with more civilian buildings, to give the players an higher "city-feeling" (you can see the difference by looking at the pic of the first level and the one of the citadel)
- I'm still working on the codes in the map.ini related to the Library, the Embassy and the Tower of the Moon

Looks awesome! I love fortress maps for several players.

Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: hoho96 am 10. Apr 2015, 11:48
Absolutely AMAZING!!!

though, my only concern is the ridiculous number of trebuchets throughout the city  :o
The timer can also be cut at least in half.
And I think the shores can be made a little bit wider to ease units movement.
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: DrHouse93 am 10. Apr 2015, 12:38
Well, the timer can be reduced. I set it to 25 minutes to give both sides enough time to prepare, but of course it can be reduced if it's too much time. However, a little time is required, just for when playing with the AI, which would definitely crush the invaders in few minutes if starting with 50000 resources and with the opportunity to open the gate
The trebuchets don't have long range. Those on the third level can't hit enemies in front of the gate^^
(Also, they're not equipped with fire stones from the beginning, that's just a visual effect present in the mod. They can be upgraded, though, and trust me when I say they're their only defense if the attackers arrive with a lot of bomb ships. Also, if destroyed they can't be rebuilt^^)
For the shores I don't know. Considering that I started from the original map, that was the original size of them. Maybe I can try lowering the water depth, but in that case I don't know how ships will look surfing on it (I don't know even what is the minimum depth required to make the water unpassable for troops and passable for ships, considering that right now the water depth is set at 80)
But don't worry, attackers have a lot of advantages to take over the defenders, which includes outposts, settlements, and especially Bomb Ships^^

1. For the highest/last level:
- wouldn't it be better to remove a layer of walls from there, as otherwise it would ruin the beautiful view from Isildur's tower (as described in the books  xD )
- IMO the tower in the moddle can  be moved onto the Fornost citadel for a better look (just a suggestion though)
2. And a (dumb, probably too dumb) question: why do you use 3-4 layers of low Minas Tirith walls for the inner Minas Ithil walls? Wouldn't it be easier to use the higher inner Minas Tirith walls instead? Or, the low walls are used for a certain look of the map  8-| ?
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: DrHouse93 am 14. Apr 2015, 19:00
@ThorinsNemesis, the Tower works similarly to the White Tower of Echtelion in Minas Tirith. It's not a real fortress, but rather the building where the Palantir of Minas Ithil is kept (and from where you can use it to see your opponents^^). On the other hand, the Fornost Fortress is perfect as as a citadel, especially if you consider that was mainly where Isildur lived, since at that time the capital of Gondor was Osgiliath, and therefore all the decisions regarding "politics" where made there (also look at Minas Tirith: there is the Steward Palace, where Anarion and in the Third Age Denethor lived, and close to it the White Tower, where the Palantir was kept). And don't worry about the walls, the tower is so big it can be seen from anywhere on the map^^ (indeed, a third layer of walls was needed to not make the walls of the third level hide the ones on the fourth xD)
For the second question, I thought about it and at first tried that. However, they looked lame, since if you notice, the higher walls on Minas Tirith have little or no bulwark, leaving the units, as well as inner buildings, exposed to attacks from catapults. So I chose to use the first level walls one above the other both for gameplay and for design^^
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: ThorinsNemesis am 14. Apr 2015, 19:32
I meant that it would look good if the tower came out of the dome of the Fornost citadel; but it still looks great the current way  :)
And yeah good point bout the higher walls and catapults, anyway, it still looks more unique with 3 layers of walls  xD

To install any map, follow the instructions in the readme

Greetings, companions of the Edain^^

Long has passed since I last wrote in this post, and I have some unfortunate bad news. Due to the upgrade of my pc to Windows 10, I lost almost all my files, including my beautiful Minas Ithil T_T
So I'd like to ask you a favour. I uploaded once, on my profile on ModDB, an old version of Minas Ithil, for Edain 3.81. Since that version is better than nothing (and of course I deleted it from my profile >_>), this is my question:
Is there someone who downloaded that map and can kindly update it or send it to me?
I would be very grateful^^

Actually stuck. It seems there is some sort of Evil Force, which makes the most stupid bugs to appear in my maps, therefore preventing me to release them. In this case, the AI is so intelligent that actually decides each time what buildings will be built on settlements and outposts. Of course, this is happening for the inside player, leaving no choice to him of what to build on conquered settlements

Greetings, companions of the Edain!

Today I'd wish to show you the map on which I'm working on. I've always thought Gondor has quite few territories and cities, despite being a great realm, where you can fight on. Furthermore, most of its maps are facing its northern and eastern borders. So that's why I want to make some maps related to Gondor, which show the heart of the kingdom: the southern territories. This is a first concept to the southern Gondor city of Linhir:

"Linhir was a town in southern Gondor, at the juncture of the River Gilrain and the River Serni, north of the Mouths of Anduin. Through it passed the road from Pelargir to Ethring.

Angbor, the Lord of Lamedon, was here attacked by the Haradrim and Corsairs during the War of the Ring. On 11 March T.A. 3019, Aragorn and the Grey Company arrived at the town (with, of course, the Army of the Dead). Terror came upon their assailants and they fled. The Men of Lamedon fled as well; all save the stout-hearted Angbor. Eventually the Corsairs were driven back to Pelargir, where they were defeated"

Awesome dude! In my earlier days I also made a Linhir map for BMFE1 with the exact same concept in mind xD. Here are some screens for reference:

I expect yours to be far greater ofcourse ;).

Actually, yours it's really cool^^
A little small, maybe, but for the standards of BFME I it's pretty nice
I wonder what kind of walls you used, and if they still are in the worldbuilder...

I must say that I really enjoy the idea of expanding the Gondor Maps with the Southern Fiefdoms, considering that there were quite few battle during LOTR and quite a lot of Reinfrocments wre send from there to aid Minas Tirith!

About the Fortress City in particular,I love the look on your Concept as well as Fredius earlier vesrions it does look like a Solid Fortress cneter of a Fiefdom and as a fun Map to play on!

I think it will be nice touch if it somehow possible to add a Hero as Lord Angbor which could be available if you play Gondor! :)

Greetings! :)

The map was actually for the mod I previously worked for a long time ago; Return of Shadow it's called. The mod had some extra mapping props, including these kind of walls.

Yea, I know that mod. I played it few times. That's a pity, though. Those walls look really nice (since Gondor has the little problem of having no straight walls, but apparently just circular ones)
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: Fredius am 24. Jan 2016, 23:11
They are actually the circular ones, only reskinned, but I positioned them in a way that they look straight. It's a ton of work but the result is worth it ;).

Greetings, companions of the Edain!

Today, I'm happy to show you my newest creation, based on the original map from BFME 2 and an original idea by myself:

THE RIVER CELEBRANT

"The Silverlode (Celebrant in Sindarin) is a stream rising in the eastern Misty Mountains from the Mirrormere in the Dimrill Dale, which forms the southern and western borders of Lothlorien. Only the power of Sauron could breach it"

While at first this map looks anything but special, I wanted to represent the magic of the Elven Ring Nenya protecting Lothlorien, and keeping out intruders from the realm. So, if you want to cross the river, you'll have to use a great power to break the spell

KNOWN ISSUES:
- The defender Lothlorien shouldn't be able to build Ents until the attacker hasn't breached the borders. However, for some reason, it's still able to do that
- The destroyer of the Free People is indestructible until the borders of Lothlorien are breached. I'm trying to figure out how to restore the old ring system of BFME 2 (you can recruit a predefined ringhero if you bring the Ring to the citadel)

Enjoy crushing those puny elves!

A good one ;) Even if I would like to have more spot for building (Slaughter house...) I made 10 Troll and an army of 1800 Dol Guldur Orcs.

May be you need to improved the limit for the inhabitant, Like I said I like to have huge army xD (**)

Well, once you break the spell of Nenya and break into Lothlorien, you should have more space to build once destroyed the Mallorn Trees xD
Also, if the problem is the CP, you can always play it on Epic Battle mode ;)
(I have to keep it low to allow all users with a crappy computer - sadly me too - to play the map)

Greetings, companions of the Edain!

Today, I'm happy to show you my next project, a map-pack consisting mainly of Gondor maps. The map-pack will include:

- Amon Anwar
- Osgiliath, the fallen Capital
- Linhir
- Pelargir
- Minas Tirith
- Minas Ithil

Other maps may surely come after^^

Some screenshots:

Amon Anwar
(http://s10.postimg.org/p8u1wtq6x/Amon_Anwar.jpg)

Amon Anwar is the seventh and westernmost of Gondor's warning beacons. It is built over the Halifirien Pass, a mountain path which connects Rohan in the North, with Gondor in the South

Osgiliath, the fallen Capital - Originally made by NJM1983 on Revora Forums, converted by me after his kind concession
(http://s11.postimg.org/karkslb4j/concept.jpg)

Osgiliath was once the great Capital of Gondor, and the meeting point of the two brothers Isildur and Anarion. Now, it's a ruined city and a contested battlefield between the forces of Gondor and Mordor due to its strategical position

Minas Tirith - Originally made by Freeedy, converted by me after his kind concession. Special thanks to magickoala, who helped me find it again
(http://s12.postimg.org/kgezwhjv1/Minas_Tirith.jpg)

Minas Tirith is the City of Kings and the capital of Gondor. Its seven leveled defensive system, combined with an impressive offensive system, makes it the most impregnable fortress

Minas Ithil - The Tower of the Moon
(http://s15.postimg.org/b9rozixnf/Minas_Ithil.jpg)

Minas Ithil was the twin city of Minas Tirith and home of Isildur, until T.A. 2002, when the Nazguls destroyed and conquered it. Now, Minas Ithil is no more: Minas Morgul stands on its place

I think, they all look very promising and great. The thing is, I don't really like fortress maps, but Osgiliath and Amon Anwar look interesting from a normal skirmish perspective. ;)

Ok, I gathered and merged all the different projects of DrHouse93 in one single thread, under his consent. Now, it will be much simpler to track these developing maps and to showcase them to the whole Edain Community.

Some other projects are still part of wider threads and I thus recommend including them too in this topic via redirecting links or posts. Good luck with the conceiving and developing process  :)

The gate is fully functioning. If you watch the video, you can clearly see that the closed gate blocks ships from passing, while the open gate doesn't
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: Darkayah am 24. Mär 2017, 10:48
Yes, i saw that. But it is an other Kind of question. Maybe i asked wrong. [ugly]
So there are shipyard spots for the enemy side and it is important to hold the gate, because if they pass the gates they do a lot of damage to the base?
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: DrHouse93 am 24. Mär 2017, 11:36
My bad, then XD
Yes, there are two shipyards for the invaders: one in the northern bank, and one in the southern bank. Each one has a strategic importance because, if the defenses are breached, the invaders can attack the defender from two sides, meaning it has to defend 6 gates, rather than 3
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: Walküre am 24. Mär 2017, 19:18
Such an excellent solution, DH! I always find myself in total awe in front of marine gates or walls. It has to do with particular memories of my childhood, to which I don't know if you can relate. I'm talking about the mighty marine gates of Constantinople in the Attila campaign of Age of Empires. They therefore are the symbol of greatly fortified city and of a naval superpower, as Constantinople was in those centuries and in the centuries to follow  8-)

And here we come, again, with an interesting correlation between Gondor and the Roman Empire (both Western and Eastern). A truly fitting reference to the mighty warfare and architectural mastery of Númenor. I don't know if you were thinking about all of this when you crafted it, DH, but it's great nonetheless  :D
Titel: Re: DrHouse93's Map Pack
Beitrag von: DrHouse93 am 24. Mär 2017, 19:30
You know me, I was obviously thinking to all this. It always bothered me that EA didn't give a minimal hint to the Numenoreans' skills as sailors, therefore something had to be done. Plus, I was also keeping in mind that Tolkien has identified Arnor as the Western Roman Empire, and Gondor as the Eastern Roman Empire, later known as the Bizantine Empire, with Minas Tirith being a portrayal of Constantinople (although Tolkien stated that they main difference is that Minas Tirith didn't fall)

It's great to hear that antiquity is often the main inspiration behind these brilliant concepts. And I obviously share your views: taken for granted the legendary and absolutely iconic legacy of the Eldar, I believe it's not commonly known and acknowledged how the very Númenor became sensationally powerful during the Second Age. Their grandiose craftsmanship was combined with an ever-growing expansionistic desire for lands and other realms to rule over. Safe from the troubles of Middle-earth and with the sacred privilege to be the closest mortal territory to Aman, Númenor was thus given the opportunity to thrive and reach the apex of its splendour, until it became a maritime superpower and decided to unleash its imperialistic potential on the mortal continent. We could therefore draw a comparison even with the British Empire, and with how England eventually evolved in a fish-island and so was able to project its power all over the world; the same thing regarding wealth and the monopoly of trade routes.

A superpower which grew even mightier than the remnants of the Noldor in Middle-earth, after the very Eldar had diminished considerably once the wars of Beleriand had ended and after the return of the hosts of the West to Valinor. One should just consider the fact that the armies of Mordor were forced to be disbanded in front of the majesty of Ar-Pharazôn the Golden, to whom Sauron himself was obliged to kneel (with the One Ring on his finger). A so dreadful of a warfare that even the Valar were in doubt whether they should confront them openly, both to avoid the massacre of Men and fearing that the confrontation would risk to bring ruin within the very Blessed Realm. Yes, this is quite extraordinary to ponder about.

I'm sorry, it wasn't meant to be an essay, but I hope I explained myself enough clearly  :)
