Greetings,
Here you can post small wiki suggestions you have. As for the rest of MU there are no proper rules when a suggestion becomes brief and when it becomes a regular suggestion but as a general guideline if your suggestion only needs a couple of lines it should be posted here. However this thread is not suitable if you are looking to start a massive project on the wiki that will require much debate and in-depth discussions. In such a case it would be better suited to create a new thread.

I suggest the Wiki page: "Fan Created Content" be renamed to "Community Content". This would add to the Wiki's effort to move from a fan-project to a fully fleshed out wiki. It's an ongoing process to slowly move towards a more formal wiki that started with the wiki redesigning. Thoughts?
-
Agree with that, I think it will fit better with the way the Wikia is changing, like you said, to be the full fleshed out Edain Wiki :)
-
Agree. Plus, this title can be tied up with Moddb group "Edain Community Content" where most fan made Edain maps are stored.
-
Since everybody seems okay with the renaming, I'll rename the page, along with that I think we should rename the category to "Community Creation", instead of the "Fan-Made" we have now. I'll use the Wiki Bot to automatically change all the category names on each page that was previously categorized under "Fan-Made".

Hi!
I think that the General category that all the units available to the three Dwarven Realms have could have a better name to make clear it is for Dwarves. How about "Dwarven Realms" or something like that? We could also include the three Dwarven Factions pages in it, to avoid the category only having general units without the factions being listed there.
I'd like to read your thoughts on the matter!

I like it. Actually I thought something like "Line of Durin" or "Khuzdul"(dwarven language).
-
I like this suggestion but I think using "Dwarven Realm" might be easier to understand.

Problem with this is that both Gandalf and Beorn would be part of this category and neither of them were dwarves.

Just a quick announcements, if you fall on any pages with audio quotes added to them could you delete them and instead add a link to the Edain Mod Soundsets page. I'm working on something else, something that might actually work. The issue with this one is the stress it puts on the browser making the page very laggy. The new setup should fit on a single line which brings me to the second part of this small post, do you think the quotes should go on the pages of the unit/hero or grouped up on a separate page?
EDIT: I think we should put them on the page the quotes are used for, with the new plugin the lag is greatly reduced and having that many quotes on a page might still cause issue and would be annoying to navigate overall

-
I'd say put them all on one page, but if this causes a lot of lag then maybe something different. Could you have a few pages for quotes (maybe one for heroes and another for units)?

I was thinking about this and looked around the net and I found that the only suitable titles for this category would be "Dwarven society" or "Dwarven folk".
-
Perhaps we should take the same approach as with Rohan and classify them as "Dwarven Allies" or "Allies of the Dwarves" and move the units that are not dwarven allies but actually dwarven units to another category.

Agree with this.

Yes, agree with "Dwarven Allies"

I agree.

Dwarven Allies sounds good.
-
The thing with this is that the category "Dwarven allies" will include just 2 pages (Gandalf and Beorn). Is it worth to have category just for 2 pages?
And the second: What would be the new Category called (where dwarven units/buildings present in all three realms)?

The category would also have lake town and dale units, as well as their respective heroes.

Oh, yes I constantly forget about those things! :)
So what do you think the new dwarven category should be called?

A couple of ideas:
- Dwarven kingdoms
- Khazad
- Dwarven armies
- Dwarven forces
- Dwarven realms
Are all the dwarves part of the Longbeard group or are they a mix?

My understanding is that the Longbeards, Durin's Folk, would encompass all three factions. So we could call it Durin's Folk maybe. I also like Dwarven Kingdoms or Dwarven Realms.

It wouldn't be quite correct calling them Durin's folk since units like Demolisher, Battlewagon do not belong to the Line of Durin. I like the suggestions Dwarven Kingdoms and Dwarven Realms and thus I'll go with whatever you decide.
-
Aren't the Demolishers and Battlewagons controlled by Durin's Folk though?

Yeah, but the name Durin's folk refers more to Durin and his sons (heroes like Thorin, Dain etc). But the whole mechanism of those (units) present in all realms should receive different name (imo).

Could a feature of a units page be to display them with and without heavy amour in a similar fashion to the buildings; I would be fine be taking screenshots.

It would be good to have "Unupgraded" and "Upgraded" or something like that.
-
I'll get a system set up to get the upgraded/unupgraded pictures up, just adding it to the long lists of things to do. Apart from that, I'll be experimenting with different Wordmarks, the one we have is no longer suitable in terms of quality. Make sure to drop me a PM or simply post here if you have something to say about it. Each one will be one for about 24hr so take your time.
-
I like that!
More ideas for new wordmarks could be with Gandalf's staff, sting, sauron's mace and other lotr weapons.
-
I'll try to stay more in the themes of the Edain Mod: Anduril, the Leaf, the Ring, ect...
P.S. Wordmark has changed again.

Ok. It looks good! :)

Hi! What if we start a new project of adding pictures for abilites too like it is with the upgrades? That might take a lot of work (and pictures) but I think that it would enhance the wiki even more.
What do you think?
-
That's a good idea, although I vote that we use the actual in game images.

So then how do we do it? Do we take screenshot and cut the picture (leaving palantir and ability slots) like you did with the Spellbook?
-
I'll export the palantir images from the game files, just pm me with the hero palantirs you need and I'll send the images to you then you can cut out the ability images and add them to the wiki.

There is a bit of formatting conflict on the faction pages with the summoned heroes and summoned units. Some appear only in their power and some also appear in the list of units/heroes. In my opinion the hero and unit sections on each faction should only be reserved for units that can be permanently summoned or recruited, the temporary units should only be referenced in the powers that summons them. What does everybody else think?
-
Yes, that would be better.
-
It would make a lot more sense that way. At the moment it always seems strange, when you look up a faction and the summonable heroes are lined up right with the recruitable.
On that hand, I think the same should apply for heroes that are summoned with some hero-ability. In Ered Luin for instance Fili and Kili, who are summoned by Thorin, are shown in the hero list, but all the other members of the company, which are summoned are in the description of the hero that summons them.
-
I agree with the hero abilities using the same concept although I vote that only units and heroes summoned temporarily be affected by the change. In my opinion, units and heroes summoned permanently should be listed in faction's hero and units section.

Hi!
I think that in the Hero Infoboxes, the part that says "relations" should be renamed with "Importance" like the building pages have for Heroes. What are your thoughts on this?

Sounds good, agreed
