Titel: Palantír of Elostirion
Beitrag von: CragLord am 23. Jul 2015, 17:59
I am starting this topic to share ideas and find best solution for appearance of "Palantír of Elostirion" in game.
What we know about "Palantír of Elostirion"?

From Tolkien Gateway:

Currently in game, on picture of "Palantír of Elostirion"  is Saruman's hand over palantír (While he is communicating with Sauron), and this need to be changed.
Current look in game:

Change that with some neutral image of palantír, image that associate on western shores of Aman,(This palantír could only be used to watch into the West, and it was later delivered by Cídran into Aman, where it remains.), some image like:

That is image of palantír of Osgiliath, so I propose some similar look. :)
Also there is image of Cirdran's ability "Into the West". This picture is really nice, and I my opinion it's integration inside palantir look/image is perfect from Lore aspects. But previous suggestion is maybe better because of diversity. (Same picture for 2 different things in faction.)

Some images which could be nicely integrated into palantir look:

Any similar ideas? What do you think about this?

I agree. Why not? It's only "cosmetic change" which is more suitable ... ;)

Yes, it's only "cosmetic change".  ;)
Presume there will be some work in photoshop, but don't think it's hard or very long work.  :)

Sorry, CragLord, maybe I'm a bit late since our discussion about Foresight on Elrond's thread, and it seems that everything has already received enough support  :P
But I still would like to give you my support.

This graphical modification will show perfectly the deep connection between the Palantír of Elostirion and Eressëa  ;)

A view of Eldamar from Eressëa  :)

You support is appreciated. I must admit, I was expecting you earlier, after all this palantír is connected with some of your topics . :P :)
Agree about deep connection between two stones, master stone in Eressëa and the greatest stone in Middle Earth, simply can't watch that graphic implementation in game anymore. That is reason why I started this topic. :)
P.S. Beautifull picture. :) Where do you constantly finding those pictures? :P

No one has ever called me 'Walk' before; from now on, I will regard it as your personal nickname for me  ;)

Exactly, the only Palantír which can go beyond the limits of the World and connect with the one of Eressëa; I think that it is indeed the means with which Círdan receives the 'orders'/dispositions of the Valar about Middle Earth (for example, the allowance of Frodo to follow the Elves to Valinor)  :)

DeviantArt is always the Heaven of the Silmarillion/LOTR/Arda pictures  :P

Titel: Palantír of Elostirion, a little mistake and a new picture proposed
Beitrag von: Walküre am 22. Aug 2015, 18:32
Today I noticed a little mistake about the Arnor faction, and the Palantír of Elostirion is kind of involved.
I know it is not a fundamental issue, but it's still a not lore accurate thing, and I would like to propose something to fix it and improve it  :)

This is one of the pictures that have been previously proposed for the Palantír of Elostirion.
But I think it wouldn't be suitable at all, for two main reasons:

- It is currently already used for Círdan's power 'Into the West' (my favourite power of his).

- But, most importantly (this is the little issue), it's wrong; not because it is not a great picture, but because it represents Númenor, not the Undying Lands  :)
Númenor has little to do with Círdan; it indeed has with Arnor (as this is a Númenórean Kingdom in Exile in Middle Earth), but Númenor, at the time of Arnor and Angmar, was way sunk in the Sea after the Great Cataclysm.
Also, I think it wouldn't be nice using a picture of this Island for an Undying Lands-related power, since it was indeed Númenor which started the Rebellion against the Valar and attacked Aman  [ugly]

So, what about changing this picture and the one of the Palantír of Elostirion with more suitable ones?
I have a proposal at hand  :)

For the 'Into the West' power, I think that this would be the best picture.
It represents the arrival of Eärendil on the Immortal Shores of Aman, with the impressive sight of the Indestructible Wall of the Pelóri and the holy Mount Taniquetil, in which are situated the Halls of Manwë and Varda  8-)

And, for the Palantír of Elostirion, I thought about this beautiful picture  :)
It represents the arrival of Eärendil in the majestic Tirion, the main City of Eldamar and the Home of the Noldor in Aman; it was here that all the Noldorin Royal Family was born in the Years of the Trees  8-)
It would be a good reference, since Tirion is obviously the birthplace of Fëanor, who it is said to be the original Creator of all the Palantíri, with the aid of Melkor (when he pretended to have repented and be changed).

All the three pictures that I mentioned are pictures of Ted Nasmith, the official illustrator of many Tolkien's Writings.

What do you think?  :)

I hope it too.
This is the only possible way there could be something related to Valinor in a Third Age Mod; these references may be not so fundamental for the gameplay, but they are really significant for the lore  ;)
Titel: Re: Palantír of Elostirion
Beitrag von: CragLord am 22. Aug 2015, 21:29
That is true! :) I like your suggestion, I always look on you like on some lore-keeper. :) 8-)
I agree about all you said about those pictures, main problem is with you and me and similar persons who knows what those pictures are about at first place :D (So those pictures "sting" our eyes when they are on wrong place, like that current Saruman hand "stings" my eyes).
I knew about Ted Nasmith and his works, also about John Howe and Alan Lee. :)
First I agree about change of that Círdan's ability palantir, that is really reasonable and lore accurate. Second that picture you (also I have proposed same picture in main comment of this topic) is really nice and descriptive, and we know who is Eärendil, and why this picture is epic and appropriate.  8-)
About your second picture (Tirion) also a lot of lore reasons, but simply that look of city is not something I would like to see inside that palantir look. I can't ague with you about this (you said correctly what you have on your mind and there are nice lore reasons), that is my simple opinion, I really don't find that look of Tirion like something nicely fitting into palantir. :P My opinion, nothing more, I really didn't like that picture from first time I saw it. xD
Sorry because I don't shape opinion with Gray about this. :D :D :D
I would more like some motives about Tol Eressëa or Tower of Avallónë, simply because of location of master stone. :) Or simply some picture about shores of Aman. :) :P C'Mon Walk, I know you have some of those picture. :D

P.S.Sorry for every missing "í" or any similar accent mistake, I know you are precise person and this is elven matter after all. :) :D
Cheers bro. :)

Dear Craggy Crag, as you may know, there are other Aman/Valinor things that occupy my Time...  ;)

Yes, Círdan's ability, connected to that image (the arrival of Eärendil), would be perfect, as it would greatly show the idea of 'finally reaching the Immortal Shores of Aman'  :)

About the Palantír of Elostirion, well, Crag, I obviously have some beautiful pictures of Eressëa  xD
But, if they had been really suitable and perfect, I would not have chosen Tirion, instead  :)
There is a picture of the Lonely Island, but it shows an event of the ancient Years of the Trees (the departure of the Teleri to Aman), and the Sky, although full of Stars, is the dark Sky of Middle Earth during those legendary Years, without Light.

Tirion (the Heart of Eldamar), instead, is represented enlightened by the Sun (more suitable for the Third Age), and, most importantly, the core of this majestic City (in the left of the picture) consists in the mighty White Palaces of the Royal Palace of the Noldor and in the great Lighthouse/Tower of Mindon Eldaliéva, of the High King of all Elves Ingwë; this Lighthouse gives Hope and Strength to all the Mariners of Aman, as a guide to the Undying Lands.
Also, the White Palaces of Tirion and Avallónë resemble the ones of Valimar itself, since they are a reflection of the original and greater Splendour beyond the Pelóri; that's why the Palaces of Eressëa were often wrongly considered, by the Men of Númenor, as Palaces of Valinor itself.
This 'architectural style' can thus be regarded as the embodiment of Valinor and all the Undying Lands themselves
  :)

The Palantír of Elostirion can only directly communicate with Eressëa, but it's still able to see forward to the Evergreen Coast of Eldamar, as also Elendil delighted himself by taking a look at the Immortal Shores of Aman  :)

The picture, also, is bright and radiant, perfect for a tool of this kind.

see you on the council boromir   :D

If I remember correctly, Boromir was a bit 'over the top' on that Council  :P
But, you, Mr. Gray, managed to contain yourself  :D

Yes, this is the picture (that you had already proposed, by the way, in the previous comments).
It shows the 'journey' of the Teleri from Eressëa to Aman, where they later founded the Harbour of Alqualondë.
Titel: Re: Palantír of Elostirion
Beitrag von: CragLord am 23. Aug 2015, 16:49
Never mind, just share them. xD :P
Tirion stays top suggestion! :)
I know Walk, I have just expressed my opinion about that picture in general, not about Tirion as city. I am aware about lore facts, as I have said in my previous comment. :)
P.S. That is best picture about Tirion in general, I tried to find some better representation of Tirion, no success. :P :) So I can't ague about that. :P :D
Ok, you got me there.  :(  :D (That is reason I have delayed this comment in general. Ahahah :D)
Just post here any pictures of Avallónë, Eressëa, or shores of Aman. There is no reason not to do that on this topic. :)
Don't be afraid.  Are you hiding something? :D

P.S. Don't forget that we are just posting suggestions here.Team will decide what they want or what they like from those suggestions. :)

Cheers Walk.  ;)

Tirion stays top suggestion! :)

You have a point, Crag  :P

How could I hide so much Beauty and Splendour from the eyes of you, mortal beings?  :D

The other great pictures of Eressëa, Avallónë and the shores of Aman, that I selected as 'suitable', are these.

The first picture is nice, but, in my opinion, it's not enough detailed and doesn't show the full 'potential' of what we might see beyond the Sea.

The second one is great, but it represents the 'rough' coast of Eldamar, surrounded by the Pelóri; though great and beautiful this sight could be, it doesn't include any trace of the majestic Cities of Aman.

The third one is wonderful, showing again the rough shores of Aman, but now with the impressive sight of the Mount Taniquetil, symbol of the authority of the Valar in the World  8-)
Too bad that this picture is perfect for the 'Into the West' power of the Lord of the Grey Havens as well  :P

So, I still support and propose the majestic Tirion as the main choice, Jewel of Eldamar and symbol of the Noldorin Power in Aman  ;)

Thank you for nice pictures. :)
I will like to see that Tirion picture integration into this palantir look:
Of course, that picture of Osgiliath palantir should be zoomed and shaped/focused before integration of Tirion picture into it. :)

I completely agree with you  :)
Also, the whole atmosphere of the place and the Palantír should be made bright and radiant, to integrate it better with the sight of Tirion.

Then, apart from these little changes, can I say, Crag, that we finally came out with an 'official' concept/proposal?  :)

Will be changed into this Tirion/Osgiliath picture or something else, that will team decide). :)

It would be really worth being implemented in the game.

You and CragLord are naturally fond of the Dwarven Suggestions section, and I could never change that; concerning me, I will unleash my full potential when the sections of Lothlórien and Rivendell will be created  :D

I personally think that it's arguably the best picture one could choose about the 'going/returning to the Undying Lands' topic; it would be also a really valuable reference to the Silmarillion and the Art of Ted Nasmith, a significant element that would be part of the Edain Mod  :)

Furthermore, if you don't have anything more to write, I will lock this thread, since its main purpose has been fulfilled, and now we can behold Círdan's Palantír and the Immortal Shores of Eldamar directly in the game.
And, the main credits go legitimately to Crag (and to Ealendril, who obviously personally implemented these proposals)  :)

Let me know if you have something else to say.
If there is something Aman-related that could be discussed, you know where to go (just look at my Signature)  :P

You are welcome Walk. :)
We all know how much you like these Aman related things, I am glad you like it.
I agree with you, main purpose of this topic is fulfilled, and you should have that honor to lock it. :P :)

Greetings

Ok, I officially declare this thread locked.
Probably, another type of locked threads compared to the usual ones; like a holy locked thread (and much more creative)  ;)

The Ship (the thread/suggestion) has finally reached the Immortal Shores beyond the Sea, never to return.
