How would you make maps for Edain 4.0?
Obviously, ROTWK question.

At the moment you can't download 4.0, therefore you can't make maps with 4.0
But for 3.8.1 you can make maps by simple using the worldbuilder of rotw while having edian enabled. As soon as 4.0 is released you can do it for 4.0 the same way.

There is no difference between making maps for bfme or edain. The only difference is that there are the new buildings and units, introduced by edain.

I mean if, with new pcs, limits such as 400 trees can be ignored now

Nope, that has nothing to do with the pcs, it's a problem with the hardcoded engine and this can't be fixed by us or by using newer computers. But on larger maps you can also use >1200 trees and >2000 shrubs before having any problems. It depends on the size of the map and the amount of trees/shrubs you're seeing at the same time.^^

I've only had a VERY limited experience with the Warcraft 3 editor... would that help?

A bit, bit not very much. The worldbuilder of Bfme is completely different to the warcraft 3 editor.

I am trying to compare sizes... how many grid squares of BFME2 are needed to make a warcraft 3 tile?

You can't really compare that... The dimensions and the unit size<->building sze ratio is completely different. And the speed of troups, the size needed for the gameplay, etc. is also uncompareable.
But the size of a normal Bfme 2 map is around 400*400 to 500*500 feet.^^

which in terms of dimensions in the editor is 50*50 aye? as each value is multiplied by 10 feet.
unfortunately, however, now the world builder in the ROTWK folder crashes..
