Displaying unit and hero stats

(1/2) > >>

The_Necromancer0:
Hello,
I'd like to inaugurate the new wiki forums with something that's been turning in my mind for a while. In response to last month's news a user suggested that we add the stats for units and heroes, this was an idea I had been playing around for a while, showing the stats of units, their armor and attack power. This will definitely be implemented but we want to wait unit a full version is released AND balanced. The purpose of this thread is to gather feedback on what
you think should appear in that section, for now the following stats are planned to appear in the section on every unit/hero page:

* health the unit/hero from level 1 to max level
* attack damage, attack speed and attack type of the hero/unit from level 1 to max level
* battalion size of the unit
* ArmorSet of hero/unit
* movement speed of hero (mounted and unmounted)/unit
Here, those are my thoughts on what should appear in that section, if you know of any stats that I have missed make sure to mention it so it can be added it to the list. Once implemented this will provide an additional layer of information for all viewers and even veteran players will find something new to learn  :D.

The armor of a unit/hero is determined by what Armor-Set they have.  The Armor-Set is basically just a name for the armor you have, which is determined in a different part of the file. Also, armor isn't determined by points, but a percentage.

For example, lets just say that a Gondor Soldier has the fictional armor-set "GondorSoldierArmor".  This GondorSoldierArmor has percentages of how much damage they take from every damage type.  So if the armor-set has Slash Damage set to 100%, they take 100% of the damage the attack does, which is the exact damage of the attack.  However, if they have 50% for Uruk damage, then take will take half damage from Uruk damage.

So I would recommend that if you want to show the armor of every unit/hero, say what armor-set they have would be the best idea, and maybe have a separate page with the stats of every armor set.  However, I will warn that it would take a long time to do this.

If you ever need help with any of these stats, just message me.  Its great to see the wiki expand like this :)

Thank you for the information. I agree that it would be best to classify everything in ArmorSet Name.

However I still think the information about the ArmorSet should be displayed on the page itself in addition to also having it all gathered on one page (similarly to the upgrades). This for two reasons: it would allow for users to find everything about the unit they're looking for on one page, avoiding fragmentation although in that case it would still be just a click away, the second is reason is that this project will likely use templates meaning that showing all the information will be as simple as typing {{ArmorSetName}} and it would display it all in a neat box.

If we need to change any of the information simply changing the template page will automatically update all the appropriate pages, so displaying the information would only require a bit more effort for a very complete result.

Being the impatient Dark Lord that I am, I actually already started listing the damage types, which can be seen here. Those are all the damage types I've found, and started writing short descriptions for it. Because I'm rather news to this I'm still not sure what all the damage types are but I'm slowly working through it, so expect a full description for all damage types at some point.

SIEGE is pretty self explanatory, it's what siege weapons use :P
STRUCTURAL - yup, that's defensive towers.
CHOP - bonus damage against units without heavy armor upgrade, units like vanilla berserkers use this.
URUK - bonus damage against units with heavy armor upgrade, units like upgraded berserkers use this.
FLAME - fire damage like Saruman's fireball or fire arrows on upgraded archers.
FROST - ice damage on units like Carn Dum Archers with frost arrows.
WATER - monsters use this damage type, so Trolls, Werewolves...
LOGICAL_FIRE - afaik this is dealt when the ground is on fire, not sure on this one though. Not too relevant anymore because you can't set the ground on fire on most maps.
CAVALRY_RANGED - basically armor piercing arrows, good against units with heavy armor although not as strong as URUK.
CAVALRY is only the melee damage, you should maybe clarify that to avoid misunderstandings.
POISON doesn't do damage over time by definition afaik, that's a different, special property of those weapons. That's just nitpicking though^^

SLASH, PIERCE, CRUSH, CAVALRY, HERO, HERO_RANGED, MAGIC, SPECIALIST and the ones I listed are commonly used in Edain atm. The other ones (and logical fire, to an extent) are to my knowledge more or less irrelevant unless they are used on other custom maps^^
Hope this helped :)
