Since the release of 4.0, we have been working on converting all the factions from older versions to the fixed building system one by one. With 4.6, we have finally completed this process, as the Misty Mountains are now available. The orcs and evil creatures of the Misty Mountains are a diverse faction full of devious warriors who swamp their opponents with their speed and sheer numbers. While weak but numerous wargs, trolls and orcs from Moria and wild settlements form the foundation of the faction, they can later build tunnels to Goblin-Town and Gundabad to recruit much stronger soldiers. They can spread across all maps like no other, to eventually be able to lead terrifying monsters like Smaug or Durin's Bane into battle.
War of the Ring rework
The War of the Ring gamemode has been heavily reworked in 4.6 to fix a number of bugs and provide a more exciting and varied game. Each real-time battle now starts with a few builders who can construct a limited number of buildings, so that each battle will allow you to make new decisions. The Livingworld has also been significantly expanded and received visual improvements: many iconic buildings and fortresses of the Third Age such as Minas Morgul, Umbar or the Argonath have found their way onto the world map. In addition, the number of territories has been massively increased, so that extensive rounds can be played to one's heart's content. Additionally, significantly more battle maps which were not previously part of this game mode now find a place in this gamemode.
Campaigns in the War of the Ring
In addition to the already familiar War of the Ring system, we have also managed to make the game mode usable for another innovation: The good and evil campaigns from Battle for Middle-earth II are now available. They have, of course, been adapted and reworked so that Edain's units, heroes, maps and spells are now available there. Once again you can experience the forces of good defending the north of Middle-earth against Sauron - or command the forces of evil and lead them to victory over Men, Elves and Dwarves. It is in your hands!
New maps
After several horde maps were already introduced in 4.5, 4.6 also offers new special maps again. The Black Gate is now available as a Horde map in which up to two defenders must hold the bottleneck against the inexhaustible armies of the Dark Lord. "Storm the Shire", previously a multiplayer map for at least two players, now also offers the possibility to defend the Shire against ever stronger waves of enemies in single player mode. Last but not least, another mission of the Hobbit campaign is available with "Exploration in the Deep" where Bilbo needs your help to steal the Arkenstone. However, beware of Smaug!
Other new Features
Last but not least, there are again a large number of bug fixes and other changes that are too numerous to mention here. The buildings of Rivendell, for example, have received new designs that are intended to reflect the atmosphere of the film trilogy more strongly. From the Citadel to the Library and Stables to the Siege Works, fortresses of the Noldor now shine in new splendour. Many buttons have been reworked and replaced with new versions. Several heroes have received new voices by talented voice actors: Zaphragor, Murin, Cirdan and Dain, to name just a few.
