Hallo liebe Community.

It's very exciting stuff. There are differences between this engine and the BFME engine so sadly we can't directly use it. However, this is opens up many prospects for the OpenSAGE project. One can also always hope that EA will release the BFME engine. I don't think they can release the game files due to licensing problems but there should be no licensing rights on the engine itself.

If we do eventually get our hands on the BFME engine I'd be interesting to see if we can make modifications and recompile to fix some bugs.

I thought both were based on the SAGE engine and only the assets were different.

Sadly not. They are both based on the engine but they are slightly different versions. When working on the game the developers make slight changes to the engine in order to make certain features work. It's all officially called the SGE engine and there's no version number but the SAGE engine that runs CnC is different from the BFME one. In the same way that the engine that run BFME1, BFME2 and ROTWK are all different versions. There's no one SAGE engine, just bundles of whatever code were needed at the time to make the game they were designing work.
